Photosynthesis of Chromera velia
(Ondřej Prášil, Eva Kotabová, Radek Kaňa, Jana Jarešová, Martin Lukeš, Jiří Šetlík and Antonietta Quigg)
Chromera velia is photosynthetic alga that is evolutionary closest to the group of heterotrophic Apicomplexan parasites. It has therefore important position among Chromalveolates. Using laboratory cultures of Chromera we currently study:
- photosynthetic activity in relation to light, temperature and nutrients
- lipid (fatty acid) composition
- photoprotection
- chromatic photoadaptation
- reaction center function and composition
- carbon acquistion
