Amit Srivastava investigates how cyanobacteria respond to environmental stresses, such as cold and nitrogen starvation, with the aim of optimizing these responses to enhance the production of valuable biotechnological compounds. He has studied key proteins involved in photosynthesis, including sigma factors, phytochromes, chlorophyll-binding proteins, and regulators of the tetrapyrrole pathway. His current research focuses on using synthetic biology tools to modify cyanobacterial metabolism for the sustainable bioproduction of industrial chemicals, primarily through the development of efficient expression vectors.
Amit has been awarded personal grants from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) and MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions). He completed his doctoral work at Banaras Hindu University (India), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (India), and the University of Tübingen (Germany). He has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), Purdue University (USA), and the Centre Algatech (Czech Republic, 2017–2020). Additionally, Amit has supervised master's theses and trained students from the bachelor’s to postdoctoral levels.
